Arsenal v Manchester United
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: November 22nd, 2014 1730 GMT
One of the big games of the season is upon us, it is Arsenal taking on Manchester United at the Emirates tomorrow. While both teams are not performing up to expectations this season, it is still a game worth watching when they clash. Injuries (plenty of them) to both sides notwithstanding, I fully expect a hugely competitive game tomorrow, and with both teams being distinctly top-heavy, it could turn into a goal feast.
As part of the build up to the game, we have invited Manchester United blogger Dale O’ Donnell onto the site to answer a few questions about the game. Dale, who is editor for the site Stretty News, took a practical approach to the game. While he admits the team is lacking severely in the defensive department, he also said that they have made significant progress from last season and the quality of their attack should help them secure at least a point at the Emirates.
What led you to support your club?
- Agent of exiled Mesut Ozil warns Arsenal that the truth will be revealed
- Arsenal overtaken by new frontrunners to sign Houssem Aouar in January
- Ex-Arsenal star favouring a move to America’s MLS to restart career
I grew up and had the greatest influence a kid could ask for. I was brought to games, pubs and always wore my red shirt with a hero’s name on the back. Andy Cole, David Beckham, Roy Keane and Gary Neville were amongst those. There was a sense of community when accompanied with likeminded people that all loved the same club.
How do you feel your sides season gone so far?
Below average but much more encouraging that last season under David Moyes.
What are your ambitions for this season?
Top four and a good run in the FA Cup. It would be great to win it and equal you lot with FA Cup triumphs. Plus, it’s been too long since we won it last. 2004!
Are you looking forward to the game against Arsenal, and why/why not?
I look forward to every game, so any given opponent doesn’t make much of a difference. The lads go out, try play entertaining football and do all they can to take three points home.
Who is your most in-form player at present?
Has to be between David de Gea and Luke Shaw. Both suffered injuries during the international break but the former will be fit for the Arsenal match. As for Shaw, I’m a tad pissed off he played on with an injury against Scotland.
What threat does your team pose?
What threat to we pose? Erm, well, up top we should be causing mayhem but a lot of our goals have come from midfield. If Di Maria is played centrally I think we’ll have a real go at your questionable defence. Then again, turn the tables and you could say the exact same about Sanchez.
Number one weakness this season has been our defence and the injury load has made it unbelievably difficult. I try steer clear of excuses so lets call it a day on that one.
Who are you most worried about facing in this Arsenal side?
What is your favorite memory facing the Gunners?
Has to be when Keane put Vieira back in his box for having a pop at Neville. I loved the tension and rivalry and since they’ve moved on this fixture has not been the same.
How will your side lineup?
Ask Louis van Gaal. All the doubts through injury have thrown me off predicting any line-up.
What is your predicted score?
Both Arsenal and United have suffered from a spate of injuries this term, and that has surely influenced our current standings. But enough key players are fit for the fixture tomorrow to make it a spectacle worth watching. While Yaya Sanogo might not be our most dangerous player (!!), he certainly put it an impressive performance with the France Under-21’s against England. However, with Giroud back to fitness alongside Sanchez and Welbeck, the French youngster will be hard pressed to get any game time.
Like Dale pointed out, the weak defences of both teams mean that we will probably see quite a few goals tomorrow. 2-2 seems as likely a scoreline as any but we really need a win and hopefully the Gunners will be able to deliver. Danny Welbeck to score the winner against his old club?? Would love to see that!
