Per Mertesacker is in a confident mood ahead of the North London derby this weekend, and is hoping for a repeat of last season’s vital win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, as reported by Sky Sports.
We are on a great run of form at the moment, and will be hoping to make it six wins on the bounce this Saturday. The giant German has been at Arsenal long enough to know just how important the North London derby is, and highlighted the importance replicating last season’s victory at this point in the campaign.
“We have a very important away game. We are very close to each other in the league, are two London rivals. We did quite well at White Hart Lane last season, so will try to repeat that,” he said.
He is also aware however, that things have changed at the Lane, and that Spurs have become a different team under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.
“They now have a new manager and there has been some change in the squad. It will be a good game, with an early kick off, so we need to be fresh,” the World Cup winner continued.
The Spuds are unfortunately in relatively good form themselves at the moment, with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen ensuring they are continually snapping at our heels.
A win this weekend would not only see us continue our fantastic winning streak, but would also put some distance between us; making sure that lot stay below us where they belong.
Tomas Rosicky was the difference maker last season in our 1-0 win, and the Czech international will be keen to feature again on Saturday.

With Alexis Sanchez yet to recover from his hamstring injury the 34-year-old may well get his wish, although he will be competing with the likes of Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla, and Theo Walcott for a starting spot.
