Henrikh Mkhitaryan is apparently determined to force through a move to Manchester United this summer, so Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze instead, according to The Sun.

The Armenian has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, but if he really is Old Trafford bound then we need to look elsewhere. The report suggests German international Gotze is our top target, and claim Wenger is plotting a £27m move for the versatile forward (via The Sun).
As the report suggests, Gotze has been repeatedly linked with a move to Liverpool, but an Emirates switch is apparently a more appealing prospect for the 24-year-old – despite the chance to link up with his former boss at Anfield.
Gotze hasn’t exactly impressed since his move to Bayern Munich, and apart from his World Cup winning goal in 2014 he’s had a pretty unmemorable time.
His one performance at the Euro 2016 Championships was also pretty abject, and it’s hard to see him being worth even close to the £27m being touted.

He showed real quality as a youngster though, and that talent is obviously still in there somewhere. If Arsene Wenger could bring that back out then he could prove a quality signing, but there are certainly plenty of other players Arsenal fans would rather see arrive.
Arsenal transfer news
It’s hard to see where he fits in at Arsenal though, as we already have plenty of players in his position. He’s been utilised as a false nine for Germany, but he definitely doesn’t seem like he’d suit the striker’s role at Arsenal. He’d also have no chance of displacing Mesut Özil at No.10, and he doesn’t seem like he’d be right for a role on the wings either.
