Arsenal want to bring in Eddie Howe as Arsene Wenger’s replacement when he finally steps down from the club in two years’ time, according to the Daily Star.
The Gunners are expected to confirm today that the Frenchman will sign a new two-year deal at the club to put an end to the speculation surrounding his future.
However, Arsenal are already looking ahead and want the current Bournemouth boss to take over with Wenger to move into a director of football role when his new contract expires in 2019.
Howe has been linked with a move to Arsenal previously after impressing in the Premier League with Bournemouth although there are doubts he lacks the experience to take over a top club.
This is perhaps where the idea of Wenger as a director of football comes in despite the fact the Frenchman has never hidden his dislike of such a role.
The report also states that Wenger could actually remain in charge for another five years, with the 67-year-old in no hurry to step down.
