Our hearts go out to John Carver who is in the midst of an injury crisis at Newcastle so bad it can only be described as bordering on “full Arsenal.”

It’s so bad that Carver has said even Arsene Wenger would struggle to pick a side with his incredible list of squad ailments that sees just 13 outfield players fit when the Gunners visit St James’ Park this weekend.
Speaking in reply to Wenger’s comments that he had what it takes to be manager, Carver said: “That’s nice because people in the game understand what is going on,” reports the Chronicle.
“He understands that if he was here in these circumstances, he would have a problem dealing with it.
“We’ve seen sides in the past when they pick up four or five injuries, it affects them – especially when it’s their best players.

“We’ve got eight or nine, and six or seven would be in the team.”
As a side note; Is anyone else feeling a sense of Schadenfreude that it’s not Arsenal who are quite literally hamstrung by fitness concerns?
Anyway, Carver’s claim that Wenger wouldn’t be able to handle such an injury crisis could be perceived as a perverse challenge from the Newcastle coach but is more likely being used as a justification as to why they are likely to lose on Saturday.
This is meant as no disrespect, and all credit to Carver who has been dealt a bum hand, but he will only know the pain Arsene Wenger has had to go through on the injury front when he is forced to play someone like Mikael Silvestre against Barcelona. End of.
