4) Arsenal 1-3 Monaco
Arguably our biggest shock of the season. After experiencing tough draws in previous last-16s against the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, a draw against Monaco seemed like we were being gifted entrance into the latter stages of the Champions League.
However, to put it bluntly, we choked. Our passing was passive and nervy, which turned into anxiety once Geoffrey Kondogbia’s deflected effort left us chasing the game.
The third goal we conceded was inevitably the killer goal in the tie – as we went on to win 2-0 away from home – and we must overcome that naivety that seems to always creep into our game in Europe.
