Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson launched yet another attack on the club after claiming that our impressive form in 2015 was due to the pressure being off, as reported on Sky Sports.
Merson has been outspoken on a number of occasions when speaking about our club, and was involved in a public war of words with Arsene Wenger earlier on this season (via the Mirror).
There is no doubting that our former midfielder wants what is best for the club, but his recent comments are rather odd considering that when playing for a club of our size, every game has pressure riding on it.

“When you have to go into a game when you’re top of the league or chasing teams down, the pressure is different,” Merson said.
“I’m sorry but, when the pressure is on, they don’t perform, and when it’s off they are the best team in the country.”

Merson’s claims are clearly unfounded on this occasion considering the way we started the league. After our worst ever Premier League start, regaining a respectable position demanded that we withstand plenty of pressure.
Many wouldn’t have predicted that we’d finish in the position we did, but the regret will be how we started the campaign. Bad management in the window and injury problems cost us dearly and if we’re to challenge for the Premier League next season, lessons must be learnt.
