Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has delivered the latest injury news ahead of our clash on Saturday against Newcastle United and as usual, the injuries are starting to pile-up.
Just before kick-off on Monday night against Liverpool, we found out that both our first choice centre-backs had suffered problems and were set to miss the game.
According to Wenger, we could be without Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny again this weekend as the pair look to recover from their respective problems.
“Mertesacker is still sick and we will know more about Koscielny today,” Wenger was quoted as saying in the Mirror.
As for our long-term absentees, the situation is looking brighter for Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck, with the boss expecting both to return shortly after the impending international break.

“Danny Welbeck is progressing well,” Wenger told reporters (via the Express).
“He should be available if all goes well after the international break. Jack Wilshere is just behind Welbeck, maybe one week.”
Our squad could be back to full strength after the international break, that’s, of course, if all our players return from their national sides in good shape – something usually considered as a minor miracle.
The lack of pace in our side, from midfield and in the forward line, could mean that Wilshere and Welbeck have been missed and both would enhance the quality of our squad.
However, a few more additions are needed in the remaining days of the transfer window if we’re serious about winning the Premier League this season.
