Arsene Wenger has brought many players to our club over the past 19 years, with mixed success throughout his tenure at Arsenal.
Some struggled to adapt before heading for the exit door, while others eventually came good after a slow start to their Arsenal careers.
However, there are a rare few that have hit the ground running and made instant impacts in our team to justify their respective price-tags, or – in the case of one specific individual – their free transfers.
Arsenal transfer news
Here are Wenger’s top five instant hits in the transfer market.
5) Andrey Arshavin
- Arsenal told ‘no less than £50m’ for top defensive transfer target
- Arsenal keen to sign 16th best ranked Premier League stopper
- Arsenal keeping tabs on €40m Italy star after ‘outstanding’ season
The Russian maestro cheats his way into this list given that he arrived in January, but in some ways, that makes his impact all the more impressive.
Few have given Arshavin the credit he deserves for the way he almost single-handedly dragged us into the Champions League above a vibrant Aston Villa side in 2009.
Arriving as our record signing at the time following some intense negotiations (via The Guardian), the Zenit star took the Premier League by storm.
Scoring eight goals and assisting seven in 14 league starts, Arshavin was named as runner-up by the fans in our Player of the Season poll (via Arsenal.com).
Sadly, his career petered out due to his lack of physical endurance.
