We have recently been credited with an interest in highly rated Bundesliga star Baba Rahman (via The Guardian), with the young left-back attracting the attention of some top European clubs. This could be bad news for our current options at left-back, as we surely can’t have three potential first-choice stars vying for position.
The 21-year-old is currently plying his trade with FC Augsburg, but the report suggests he could be set for a summer exit.
The Guardian claim we are facing competition from a number of teams in the hunt for the Ghanaian’s signature, but – along with Chelsea – we are leading the pack.
A fee of €20m is being touted (via The Guardian), and with our new financial clout that is a figure we are more than capable of paying.
You would argue that a left-back is the least of our concerns, as we currently boast two excellent options in Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs. While both men are solid options however, we could most certainly improve on the pair.

Monreal has been linked with a move back to La Liga (via the Metro), with Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao both allegedly interested. The Metro’s report insists he is keen to reject the offers in favour of penning a new Arsenal contract, but a new arrival at left-back could change his mind.
The Spaniard wrestled a starting spot away from Gibbs this past season and was hugely reliable over the course of the campaign. Neither player’s position is totally secure though, and with Arsene Wenger becoming more ruthless in recent years, you wouldn’t put it past him to replace either of them.
Monreal has shown that he is arguably the better left-back, but with age and a homegrown status on Gibbs’ side, you would expect the former Malaga man to be sacrificed if Rahman were to arrive from Germany.
