Arsenal’s vice-captain Per Mertesacker has called on his team to maintain the form we’re showing in 2015 for the majority of next season in order to sustain a title challenge, BT Sport reports.
We have only lost one league game since New Years Day and won nine of our last 10, but second place is all we can hope for due to our horrendous start to the season.
Arsenal transfer rumours
Costly defeats against Swansea City, Stoke City, and Manchester United linger in the memory, and Mertesacker is eager for the team to now show consistency over the course of the new season.
“Consistency. It’s all about that,” Mertesacker was quoted as saying by BT Sport.
“In 2015 we haven’t lost a lot of games. Those winning runs create a lot of confidence, between the fans, between the team.

“That is really important to get that going for more than six months.”
Mertesacker has been at the heart of our impressive period after resuming his impregnable partnership with Laurent Koscielny – a luxury we weren’t afforded throughout the campaign.
Injuries were certainly a factor behind our poor run of form earlier on in the campaign, but it’s imperative we don’t become a team known for only being efficient during a calendar year.
With no international tournament this summer – apart from the Copa America – to negotiate around, there can be no excuse when the season kicks off in August.
