Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has clarified the current situation regarding his pursuit of the clean sheet record held by David James after reports claimed that our summer signing equaled the record against Stoke City.
Cech has kept three clean sheets in our last three league games and has completely banished memories of his shaky debut against West Ham United.
Technically, Cech has kept 171 clean sheets which is one more than James’ total, but the former Chelsea man revealed that the rules state a goalkeeper must play the full 90 minutes in order to claim full rights to the clean sheet.
Given that he didn’t play the full 90 in four of those games, Cech revealed that he’s currently on 167 clean sheets and, therefore, needs four more to become – some would argue – the most decorated goalkeeper in Premier League history.

Along with four league titles and four FA Cups, breaking the clean sheet record would solidify Cech’s legacy in English football if he hasn’t done so already.

You have to play full 90 minutes to count a Premier League clean sheet … That’s the rule , so only the games gk starts and finishes . 2

I have 171 Premier league clean sheets in total but can’t count 4 because I didn’t play full 90 minutes … So the correct number is : 167 !
