Mikel Arteta has apparently signed a contract extension at Arsenal, with reports from Spain suggesting our captain will be with us at least another year.
It was already believed that a new deal had been penned, as Arteta wasn’t among those released from the club on July 1st (via Arsenal.com).
Respected Spanish journalist Kike Marin has seemingly confirmed those suspicions however, by announcing on Twitter that a one-year extension had been agreed.

Arteta spent much of last season out injured, and is unlikely to see regular first team football in 2015/16 either. He offers a huge amount off the field though, and his leadership is a highly valued asset.

The 33-year-old is coming to the end of his career, and is unlikely to continue playing at the highest level for much longer. He looks to have all the makings of a fantastic coach though, and he may well have plenty to offer Arsenal long after his playing days are over.
I for one am certainly glad our captain is remaining at the club, and I hope he is with the club beyond the end of his current contract.
