The Karim Benzema saga continues to rumble on – though Spanish journalist and La Liga expert Guillem Balague has revealed that Real Madrid are not expecting the Frenchman to depart.
Real Madrid are set to sign Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic, which has led to whispers suggesting that a high-profile player could be departing the Bernabeu, but Balague believes that this isn’t the case.
Kovacic, 21yo, new RM player, 30m E. His position is a bit of an enigma, will be replacement 4 Modric and Kroos. Holding midf still needed

By the way, nobody at Real Madrid expects Benzema to leave… — Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) August 17, 2015
We have been heavily linked with a move for Benzema throughout the summer (via Sky Sports), but there doesn’t seem to be any concrete links – with both camps denying rumours linking the striker with a move to the Emirates.
Following the arrival of Petr Cech earlier in the window, we have seen very little intent from Arsene Wenger to enter the market, even though we could do with an additional centre-forward and a holding midfielder.

A player of Benzema’s calibre would certainly enhance our squad, and it seems that Wenger is only willing to get the chequebook out for those type of players.
Availability has been an issue this summer and we could come to regret our lack of activity during the window.
