Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this January, but we are set to miss out on West Ham’s Winston Reid, according to the Daily Mail.

The New Zealand international looks like an excellent signing on paper; the 26-year-old boasting Premier League experience, defensive versatility, and a not unreasonable asking price.
Wenger has apparently balked at the £8m price tag slapped on the Hammers centre-back however, with the Frenchman believing a player with just six months left on his contract should cost far less.
West Ham are currently enjoying their best season for years, and refuse to be forced into selling one of their top performers. If Reid could help them secure European football this campaign, then it may prove financially sensible to retain his services now, and let him leave for free in the summer.

We are desperately in need of a centre-back immediately however, and can’t really afford to wait until the end of the season. With a host of other teams also reportedly chasing Reid’s signature, it seems as though we either need to meet West Ham’s demands, or turn our attention to other targets.
