Arsene Wenger has confirmed Jack Wilshere has suffered a knee injury, however he is expected to leave on the pre-season tour to Scandinavia on Thursday despite missing Sunday’s 3-1 win over Chivas in Los Angeles (via Goal.com).
Wilshere’s long standing battle with injuries is what has severely hampered his promising Arsenal career to date. Despite making just one Premier League start last season, he travelled with England to Euro 2016 which in theory allowed him to start his preparations for the upcoming campaign early.
The midfielder severely needs minutes under his belt to rediscover his midas touch, but his latest setback is a worry with the Premier League opener coming in less than two weeks time.
Although Wilshere missed Sunday’s fixture, Wenger feels he should be fine to travel with the rest of the squad this week.
“It’s a slight patella problem but I think he should be with us on tour on Thursday,” the Arsenal boss said (via Goal). “I hope he will, yes.”
The scepticism in Wenger’s voice, coupled with Wilshere’s horrific injury record, is a real worry with the season just around the corner.
