Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised the performance of Danny Welbeck after his winning FA Cup goal and revealed that the striker was desperate to win given the added motivation of facing his former team.
The Man United academy graduate netted the winner against his former club to knock them out of the FA Cup and send us to Wembley, with the boss feeling that Welbeck was highly motivated to win the game.
After criticism from Louis van Gaal following his sale, our No.23 made the Dutchman eat his words by calmly slotting the ball past David de Gea and finishing into an empty net from an awkward angle.

“He has pace and physique and we were able to take that little bit of risk without destroying the balance of our side and overall he had a great game,” Wenger told reporters after the game (via Evening Standard).
“When you play against your former club, we always want to show we are a great player but it is not easy to deal with the mental situation but he did not do anything different to his normal game. He just wanted to win.”
The win proves a significant boost for our Champions League chance and will no doubt affect Man United, who have a tricky month of fixtures ahead over the next month.
