We have been heavily linked with a move for Karim Benzema this summer (via the Metro), with the Frenchman seemingly top of our transfer list.
Arsene Wenger may have inadvertently hinted at his compatriot’s arrival, with his recent comments and actions seemingly suggesting a new arrival is imminent.
After a successful pre-season, the manager claimed he planned to keep promising youngster Chuba Akpom at the club, with the 19-year-old looking likely to see more first team football in 2015/16.
“I won’t send him on loan,” said Wenger (via the Daily Mail).
“I sent him out on loan last year. I thought he needed that.
“This season no, I plan to keep him with us. It’s down to performance and attitude and he has enough of that way to be a big talent.”

This unfortunately suggested that we wouldn’t be signing a new forward, with the Englishman set to play backup to the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
Recent reports (via the BBC) have linked Akpom with a loan move to Hull City though, with Wenger clearly believing the academy graduate will have a better chance of first-team football with the Tigers.
With a number of forwards heading for the exit already this season – Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo for example – we are leaving ourselves thin in the striking department. Wenger’s willingness to let Akpom leave makes it look like he knows something we don’t, perhaps that a new striker is on his way.
Benzema is seemingly our top target, so it would make sense that he’s the one Akpom is making room for. There doesn’t seem to be any other reason why Wenger would do a U-turn with regards to Akpom’s situation, so could a new striker be on their way to the Emirates any day now?
