Arsenal forward ruled out of Manchester United reunion
Chelsea have secured the Premier League title with games to spare this season, and we are currently 14 points off the top of the table. Our slow start to the campaign cost us the chance to challenge, but Wenger believes that we will be far better equipped next campaign.
“We have that feeling [that we can challenge next season] in the squad but it’s still a question because we are behind Chelsea and behind with a pack of Man City and Man United,” Wenger said, according to Goal.
“We go into the uncertainty of how strong will they be next season. Nobody knows that.”
We strengthened well this season, with Alexis Sanchez in particular really hitting the ground running in the Premier League. Wenger hinted that we would once again look to bring in some new faces, but stressed that keeping our team cohesion was just as, if not more important.

“You can always look at possible areas where you can strengthen but sometimes in your own team the cohesion is important as well,” he continued.
“And that is linked to the type of players that play together.
“Sometimes it’s less risky [to bring players in] but where the heart of the team is, the fact they play together for a long time is very important as well.
“We just spoke about Chelsea. They have a stable defence that has played together for two or three years now. And they conceded fewer goals than the other teams.”
We certainly need to bring a few players in to compete with Chelsea next season, as a few injuries could all but end our campaign.
A defensive midfielder and another forward player are vital, while we could certainly improve our goalkeeping situation. Wenger insists that having a defence that has played together for an extended period of time is hugely important, and thankfully we look to have a solid defensive united at the moment – as well as strength in depth for once.
Hopefully the Frenchman is right when he says we can challenge for the title next season, as it’s been far too long since we’ve been on top.
