Arsene Wenger has revealed that he came close to signing Eden Hazard a few years ago and was a few “millions” away from bringing the Belgian to the Emirates Stadium, the Daily Star reports.
Hazard was the outstanding player in the division last term and swooped all of the individual awards as Chelsea stormed their way to a Premier League title.
Ahead of the new campaign, it looks as though Alexis Sanchez and Hazard will once again compete for the individual gongs, with no major arrival coming into the Premier League this summer.
If Wenger had his way however, Hazard and Alexis may have been lining up alongside each other in red and white.

Alexis will miss the clash at Wembley this weekend – with the forward still on holiday following his Copa America excursions – and we’ll definitely have to work hard to keep Hazard quiet if we’re to be victorious.
Billed as a glorified friendly, the clash against Chelsea will definitely carry some psychological significance given our record against Jose Mourinho.
Win, and we may just build the foundations ahead of a special campaign.
