Over the years Arsenal haven’t exactly splashed the cash with manager Arsene Wenger growing a reputation as a man who doesn’t like to spend. That of course has changed recently with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for a combined total of £72.5million, but it still hasn’t stopped the Gunner’s gaffer having to respond to criticism (via Daily Mail).
During his press conference following the Dinamo Zagreb tie which saw them run out 3-0 winners, Wenger responded, “It’s you, the press, who give me that reputation, but my friends don’t think that.”
But does this mean Arsenal will be ready to splash the cash again in January to further their title chances? Manchester United are continually linked with Ronaldo, Neymar, and Bale, but what if we start to offer mammoth sums?
Could we see an Aguero or Suarez type at the Emirates, or perhaps a Messi or Ronaldo figure? A combination of both? We wish, we’re not sure that’s exactly what Wenger meant, but it doesn’t stop the dreaming with Arsenal perhaps short of a real high-quality striker.
We need the goals of Van Persie and Henry replaced, and what better way to that than a player with attributes from the world’s best stars. A football Frankenstein if you will.
Imagine Agu-Bal-Ess-Mar walking out onto the Emirates pitch, he’d certainly take us away from Manchester City and United with the pace of Bale, the threat of Aguero, and the combined skill of both Messi and Neymar.

Come on Wenger!
Naturally, I’m joking, this is just Game Face. A football face generator which can create the ultimate footballer by merging their faces, but the need for Wenger to spend could be necessary if we are going to keep up a title challenge.
Giroud is playing well at the moment, while Alexis Sanchez looked in flying form against Dinamo Zargreb on Tuesday. However the need for a Benzema or 25+ goals-a-season striker is apparent, likewise a defensive midfielder in the absence of Francis Coquelin. But it seems unlikely Wenger will buy in this position, he’s dead-set adamant on using what he’s got internally and actually a more likely signing is the mythical superstar striker.
Inter’s Mauro Icardi is the latest to be linked with the club, and if Wenger like he says, isn’t afraid to spend money then fingers crossed we could we actually look forward to a new superstar in North London after Christmas?
