Arsene Wenger is set to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender as the final week of the transfer window approaches, The Independent reports.
We have been linked with the German midfielder extensively ever since the Bundesliga side rejected our £18.5m offer for their prized asset in 2013 (via The Guardian).
Two years on, The Independent claims that Wenger is set to test their resolve once again with a £18m offer as the boss looks to strengthen our midfield ahead of an arduous campaign.
In a week where Wenger admitted that he was prepared to take a gamble on the right target, many are wondering who we have in our sights.

“There is always time to take a gamble and we are not against taking a gamble,” Wenger told reporters (via the Daily Mail).
