Arsene Wenger has reportedly set aside €65million in order to land Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, as the boss aims to entice the Spanish giants into selling their forward – according to Spanish publication AS.

AS claim that we have contacted Real Madrid once again regarding Benzema’s availability and are prepared to part with a record sum to get the deal done.
A top class forward seems like the missing piece in what is an already strong squad and judging by the intensity of the rumours in recent weeks, there can be no doubts as to who Wenger’s top target is.
This recent revelation concurs with Lord Harris’s comments when our club director revealed that we were after a world class striker who would command a transfer record fee in order to bring him to the club.

“On the list is a centre-forward, but I’m not going to tell you who he is,” Lord Harris told the Daily Mail.
“We will probably have to break the club record to get the man he wants.”
If signing Petr Cech was a statement of intent, Benzema’s potential arrival would make many stand-up and probably rank us as favourites to clinch the title for the first time since 2004.
It is evident that we’re close, but unless we fill the remaining gaps in our squad, it’s difficult to see us overhauling Chelsea come the end of the season.
