Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended his transfer policy and reminded fans of the club’s past successes while encouraging them to put their faith in the current squad.
The Gunners lackluster display against Aston Villa has sparked a furious response from Gunners fans, who left Wenger in no doubt they blame him for failing to fulfill the club’s preseason promise to spend big on new signings.
Wenger launched a passionate defense of Arsenal’s record in the transfer market and urged fans not to worry while reiterating his belief in the current squad.
According to Guardian, he said :
I cannot listen every minute to every state of mind for everybody. You cannot look all the time in life at what others do. You do what is right for you. I would just like to reiterate to you that in the last 16 years we have been very successful with transfers.
If you look at the players who play [against Fenerbahce], they are top quality players. You should never forget that. It is not always to think what is outside is better than what you have. What is important as well is to rate what you have and our fans have to understand that as well.

What is important is to go out and see a good football game. All that other stuff is good for the newspapers, but it is not real football. A squad has to have the right number. And we will have the right balance when the transfer window closes, don’t worry.
Wenger also reacted to criticism from Newcastle boss Alan Pardew who claimed Arsenal had unsettled Cabaye by making a bid for him, he added :
We don’t want to hurt anybody, not Newcastle, not anybody.
You can’t reproach us on one side for not buying and yet on the other side, when we try to buy, reproach us as well. That is a bit contradictory.
I don’t know if it’s unfair or fair. I just do what I think is right for Arsenal Football Club and that’s it. There’s nothing to explain.
I won’t explain to you what happened. It’s not down to me to explain to you everything I do. It’s impossible.
If we do a transfer we will announce it. We always inform you. As for the rest, you have to leave us to do our own things.
Wenger has found himself under increasing pressure from both media and fans alike as the north London club have failed to strengthen this summer. He will face a huge test against Fenerbahce in their Champions League qualifier today, which could have a huge say on the Gunners season.
It looks like Wenger is getting more and more frustrated by the criticism aimed at him by the press and fans. His latest comments are unlikely to go well with the fans considering he has again defended his transfer policy. As days pass by there hasn’t been much movement in the transfer market except a £10 million bid for Cabaye which was immediately rejected by Newcastle.
It is evident from Wenger’s comments that there won’t be any change in his transfer policy in terms of signing any Marquee players. I think he will again stick to signing those semi average players who come cheap and fill up those free spots in the squad. It is just about time Wenger reliazes that we need some top top quality players if we are to challenge for any kind of trophy let alone winning one. Hopefully Wenger is just waiting to confirm their participation in the Champions League before going after some big signings.
