Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal are trying to sign quality players this summer and says the Gunners are working hard to strengthen their squad before the start of the season.
The north London club have been linked with a host of big names this summer, including the likes of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, Liverpool forward Luis Suarez and Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
However, so far, Arsenal have only confirmed the arrival of 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre so far this summer.
Wenger, however, has moved to reassure Arsenal fans that work is going on behind the scenes at Emirates Stadium to bring in “quality and not quantity” ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
When quizzed about the club’s links to the likes of Suarez, Higuain and Rooney he said to Daily Mail :
They are all realistic targets quality wise, but not all of them are available to join us. First of all, those players are under contract and it is the club who decide if they can go and, if they go, if they can join us.
We have better financial resources than the years before and it is resources we have created ourselves. That is massively important to us.

For years we were out of the race for the top-level transfers but we are coming back now because we are in a better financial situation and also because of Financial Fair Play. That will give everybody a bit more even ground.
We must also rely on the quality of our work, on the style of our play and the fact we develop our own players. We will only use financial resources to bring in one or two players who will give us something more.
We will see what we can do until the end of the transfer period and certainly before the new season starts. That’s what we are working on at the moment.
The fans, the players, everybody is reassured by big names. But what is important is that we don’t need numbers, we need quality. We are working very hard and I’m confident we will be able to do it.
The chief executive at the club Ivan Gazidis has also earlier confirmed that the club are ready for a big summer in the transfer market and rumours are that Wenger has claimed to be looking to spend big as Arsenal’s squad needs strengthening if they are to once again establish themselves as title challengers.
Wenger came under fire from many quarters last season, but given the way Arsenal responded at the end of the season should’ve removed doubts from many. The fact that Wenger has been able to keep Arsenal in the top 4 despite many financial restrictions is a testament to his managerial ability.
But now is the time to stop thinking of 4th spot and give a push to challenging for Premier league title by making some quality signings but judging by the first 2 weeks action in the transfer window its gonna be same old story for Arsenal fans.
What do you say Gooners?
