New midfield signing Mikel Arteta insists that himself and former Arsenal talisman Cesc Fabregas have differing styles of football and it would be wrong of him to try emulate him as well as fans to compare the two.
The experienced Spaniard has had a tough first few weeks with the gunners and I am sure all gunners’ fans are hoping that Arteta can play a key role in getting Arsenal’s season back on track.
Mikel said on the situation:
I am not here to replace Cesc and I would be wrong to try that.
Cesc was the best player at Arsenal and one of the top three in the entire Premier League.
I have no aim to become that. My target is simply to try to reach my highest level as a player and to help the team.
Cesc was at Arsenal for seven years. I have been here for a few weeks. If I try to be equal to or better than him, I would be confusing myself.
- Arsenal must outmanoeuvre Galatasaray to win race for £2m ‘bargain’ transfer
- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
We’re different personalities with a different style. I must find my own way to do well for Arsenal.
I would have to totally agree with the Spaniard on this one, although in saying this I would like him to be playing the role Ramsey is currently occupying in the team which of course is Fabregas’ former role. The performance by the Welshman at the weekend was poor and I feel Coquelin and Song would stabilise the midfield, especially defensively at least until Wilshere recovers from surgery. What do you guys think?
