Mikel Arteta has spoken about the clubs interested in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and whether he thinks the forward will stay at the Emirates (via Arsenal.com).
These last few months have really emphasised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s importance to Arsenal.
The club captain has scored 17 goals and assisted one more in 25 Premier League matches this season and grabbed another two on Sunday.
His contract is set to expire at the end of next season and now, head coach Mikel Arteta has spoken about the player’s importance and why clubs are interested in signing him.
“The [clubs who want him] are completely right because he is a superb player,” Arteta said after Sunday’s 3-2 win over Everton.
“He completely deserves to be liked by all the other teams. Hopefully we can convince him that this is the right place for him and that he has a future here.
“I think it’s been tough for a player like him, because there’s been a lot of disappointment in the last few months or years because he has big expectations and he wants to play for the biggest clubs in the biggest tournaments.
“He wants to be up there with the best players in the world, and we have to try and support him and give him everything as a club, so that he really feels fulfilled here. That’s the challenge that we have.”
Arteta was also asked about whether wins like the one against Everton will help convince the club captain to stay.
“Hopefully,” he went on.
“Not just the wins but as well what we are trying to do. Does he really enjoy walking out onto the pitch every time he goes? It’s very much part of what we are trying to build here and I think he is with that mindset at the moment.”
It’s important that Arsenal can keep hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He’s shown his quality on so many occasions over the last few years but it’s his willingness to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s new style of play that has really impressed.
