Mikel Arteta has stayed strong to his belief that this Saturday’s FA Cup final will not be Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang’s last game in an Arsenal shirt, but doubts linger and fans are concerned that the risk of no European football next season could spell the end for the striker.

“No, I don’t have those thoughts,” Arteta told the press, via Arsenal official, ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea when pressed on the future of the club’s top goalscorer.
“You need a lot of ingredients on the table to persuade a player of his level to be at this football club. Don’t forget that he still has a contract here with us. We wanted to keep him and do it in a more long-term way but at the moment he’s with us and I think he should be really proud of where he is as well.”
The 31-year-old striker has yet to taste silverware success at Arsenal, having finished as a runner-up in both the League Cup and Europa League. Another final defeat would certainly taint the striker’s CV at Arsenal, and the lack of European football could prove to be too much.
Aubameyang’s contract runs out next summer, so there’s every chance the Gunners could hold on to the striker for another season, even if contract talks break down, but from a financial perspective it would be a disastrous bit of business.
Kick-off for Arsenal vs Chelsea in the FA Cup final is at 17:30 (UK time) on Saturday August 1st.
