Mikel Arteta has said he is very happy with his two new players after Arsenal completed the double loan signings of Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari (via Arsenal.com).
It’s been a busy few days for Arsenal in the transfer market as the Gunners completed two loan deals.
Defenders Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares joined from Flamengo and Southampton respectively on season-long loan deals.
The Gunners are believed to have agreed on an option to sign Mari permanently in the summer and Cedric is a free agent in a few months.
Now, head coach Mikel Arteta has spoken about the defensive reinforcements that will hopefully help the Gunners in the months to come.
“We found two players that we believe can be very useful and improve our squad, obviously with the resources we had as a club. We are happy with what we’ve done,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.
“He’s [Cedric] a player who’s got a big experience. He’s played in different countries, he’s played in this league, he knows what it means.
“He’s very willing to go to another top club and he’s got that desire, that commitment. I followed him a few seasons ago, I started to follow him and I really like what he can bring. They were the right conditions for us as well to try to improve the squad.”
Arteta was equally complimentary of his new centre-back. “He balances what I want to do from the back line, he gives more options, more solutions, he opens up the pitch more.
“Again, he’s a player that we’ve been following for the last few months. We are really happy to have him.”
It looks like Arsenal have made a couple of solid additions to their squad. Cedric Soares is an accomplished defender and Pablo Mari looks to have a great deal of potential to play in England. The best thing is that both players are on temporary deals so it is up to Arsenal whether they make the moves permanent or not.
