Arsenal now know their opponents for May 30th’s FA Cup final at Wembley – none other than Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa who won triumphantly over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners squeezed past a resilient Reading on Saturday thanks to an Alexis Sanchez brace, with Arsene Wenger’s men leaving it late to find a winner in the second period of extra-time despite dominating large parts of proceedings.
But it is Arsenal’s second consecutive FA Cup final after they ended their trophy drought at the national stadium last May in the thrilling 3-2 win over Hull City. They’ve certainly been handed the more favourable of opponents but the Tigers certainly proved anything can happen in the Cup.
Liverpool seemed the favourites to meet the Gunners in the final especially with the narrative of Steven Gerrards last game in the red shirt he’s worn since the 90’s falling on his 35th birthday. But it wasn’t meant to be as Villa from behind to win 2-1 thanks to goals from the in-form Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph canceling out Philippe Coutinho’s opener.
It is Villa’s first FA Cup final appearance since 2000, however the Gunners will remain confident but certainly not complacent to make it two consecutive FA Cup victories.
