Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has revealed that he is happy with how his pre-season preparations are going on the club’s tour of Asia.
The French right-back has suffered some horrible injuries in recent years, including two leg-breaks and due to injury, Sagna missed the club’s pre-season last year, which held him back for the start of the 2012/2013 season.
The France international came on midway through the second half as Arsenal began the Asia Tour 2013 with a comprehensive 7-0 victory against the Indonesia Dream Team.Sagna provided two assists for compatriot Olivier Giroud and he says the team thoroughly enjoyed their stay in Jakarta.
According to Arsenal official website , he said :
I think it’s great for us to come here and to visit Indonesia is something different.
I think we played well. We managed to keep the ball, pass it and create chances. We have to stay positive and we have to keep working.

The guys did well in the first half – it was not easy because [the Indonesia Dream team] were full of power. In the second half they were a bit tired so it means they achieved a great job and we managed to take advantage of it.
I’m very happy. Last year I missed pre-season so I was struggling a bit during the season. I’m looking forward to getting back to my best – that’s my aim and after that we’ll see.
The Frenchman has been locked in contract talks with the club’s officials since December and there is still no reported breakthrough but various sources that he is close to agreeing a one year extension on his current deal.
Sagna’s first-team spot has been questioned this season with several mistakes leading to crucial goals last season. But his experience would be vital in any Arsenal back four next season but Wenger has always been a manager willing to acknowledge when one transition of his Arsenal team is being overlapped by another.
That is certainly the case with Sagna and Jenkinson and there remains a very good chance Arsenal can now sign another right back to encourage even greater competition for places considering the wealth they have at their disposal.
But one more year would allow him to share the burden with Jenkinson, to mentor him a bit more, and help him develop as a player. And with a good, injury-free preseason under his belt, the physical difficulties he faced last season won’t be an issue.
Should Arsenal extend Sagna’s contract or should they sell him?
