The Gunners have been strongly linked with a bid to sign the Italy striker in recent weeks but a deal failed to materialise before Italy crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage. However, after a poor tournament, the striker is now thought to have been forgotten by Arsenal and any other club who were after him.
Berlusconi revealed that the club were close to striking an agreement to sell the 23 year old before Italy’s disappointing campaign in Brazil. He said:
Other than Italy, I’m the one who lost at the World Cup.
I was selling Balotelli to an English team for several millions, but, after this World Cup, who will buy him now?
I was going to sell it to a top English club for 35 million [euros], then the deal has stalled.
The striker has been one of the world’s best strikers at times and a counterproductive part of the lineup at other times, which was quite evident from his performances in the World Cup. He was a force in the opening game with the game-winning goal over England, but flamed out by missing two great chances against Costa Rica and could have been sent off against Uruguay after a controversial yellow card.
Despite his not so good performances at the World Cup, he is still a proven quality striker and has an impressive record at Milan having scored 34 goals in 50 matches. He is clearly talented and there’s no denying that, as he’ll score spectacular goals and play a fantastic game once every while. However the Italian has serious discipline problems which makes him a risky signing, as you never know what you are going to get with him.

The Gunners depend heavily on team play and strong chemistry, but Balotelli is not that kind of player as he will try to play hero ball as he has a knack for making things about himself. His potential is so great that if he is able to repair his image then he might make it big, but for the time being it’s better to ignore him.
