Arsenal have received a big boost in their hopes of keeping Hector Bellerin this summer with Marca claiming Barcelona are now keen on Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo as the Gunners star is considered too expensive.
Barcelona have struggled to replace Dani Alves who left last summer and are in the market for a new right-back with Bellerin their prime candidate considering his La Masia connection and rise to prominence at Arsenal.
Cancelo, is valued at half the price of his Catalan counterpart, with Bellerin considered a €60m player. But Arsenal are not even considering selling the player, with Arsene Wenger reiterating that stance recently after discussing the Spaniard’s new deal at the north London club.
The report from Marca suggests Arsenal eye Bellerin as a future club captain and want to hold onto him for the long-term, despite noises from the Catalan giants camp about ‘Barca DNA’ reminiscent of the Cesc Fabregas saga.
While Bellerin still has a long way to go in establishing himself as the first choice right back for his country, it won’t be long until he will heralded as one for the finest right-backs on the continent.
His immense potential is there to see and we can hope it is realised in an Arsenal shirt for many years to come.
