There have been mixed reactions to Arsenal drawing Barcelona in the Champions League last 16, with the fans, players, and pundits all having their say. Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba is the latest to voice his opinion on the draw, and claims it will be a “complicated” and “difficult” match, as reported by Marca (via the Express).
Barcelona is unquestionably one of the toughest draws in the pot, and there are plenty of teams we would have rather been matched against. We are not exactly a minnows in the Champions League though, and Alba knows it’s going to be a tough game.
“They’re a very complicated opponent who from midfield to the forwards have players who are very good with the ball,” he told Marca.
“I’m sure they’ll make things difficult. Every year is different but this time it will be made more complicated by the players Arsenal have.”
We haven’t had the best of luck in the Champions League in the past, and we always seem to get the toughest draws (AS Monaco aside). We’re still capable of getting through to the quarter finals though, it’s just going to be a little more difficult.
There were plenty of easier options for us in the last 16, but there were also a number of far more better options for Barca too. Whatever they say, they can’t pretend that we’re the draw they wanted most, and a matchup against Gent, PSV Eindhoven, or someone similar would have been far more preferable.

Hopefully we make the match more than just difficult for Barcelona, but downright impossible. No team has ever retained the Champions League before, so let’s try put the holders out before they even get close.
