We are reportedly chasing yet another Barcelona star ahead of the January transfer window, with Barca B captain Alex Grimaldo a top target, according to the Daily Mirror.
The left-back is one of the most promising talents in Barcelona B, but looks unlikely to get first-team football under Luis Enrique anytime soon. Jordi Alba is one of the best left-backs in the world, and while extremely talented, Grimaldo doesn’t look like displacing him in the near future.
The report suggests he is keen to secure first team football, and believes he has a better chance of doing so at the Emirates.
Nacho Monreal is our current first choice left-back, with Kieran Gibbs playing backup. If Arsene Wenger really is looking at bringing Grimaldo to North London, then you’d have to assume that one of them would be on their way out of the club.
We’ve seen excellent results when poaching from Barcelona’s youth academy in the past, with Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin both blossoming into top quality players. The former obviously left us disappointed in the long-run, but having Grimaldo and Bellerin on either flank could be work to devastating effect.

With Barcelona B relegated last season and now playing in Spain’s third tier, a number of players will understandably no longer be happy at the level of football being played. Could Grimaldo come to Arsenal and replicate the form Bellerin has shown?
