BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce has made the surprising announcement that he believes Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero will swap clubs in January (via The Daily Star).
For all the rumours, there haven’t been too many big money transfer swap deals between clubs in recent years, especially in England.
Even Wayne Rooney’s Everton return was handled separately to Romelu Lukaku’s move the other way but that didn’t stop the rumours swirling around Arsenal over a potential swap deal.
Alexis Sanchez wanting to leave the Gunners was the story of the season with clubs across Europe being linked to the Chilean.
However, one of the strangest rumours was a potential swap deal with Manchester City that included Sergio Aguero moving the other way. That never looked likely but now, BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce has said that he believes it could happen in January.

“He [Guardiola] still wants Sanchez, that could happen in January,” Pearce told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Highly probable that will happen in January.
“And it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Aguero comes here [Arsenal].
“It was mooted in the summer, wouldn’t surprise me at all.”
Since Guardiola arrived at the club last year there were reports that he was never truly satisfied with Aguero’s work rate up front.
“I don’t think it’s a marriage made in heaven, Aguero and Pep I really don’t,” Pearce continued.
“I think he’s a phenomenal worker, I think he’s joined in, he works hard in the box, and I think this is another chip at him. I think Aguero is a sensational player. One of the best I’ve ever seen.”
It’s strange for someone as respected as Jonathan Pearce to come out with something like this which does add some credibility to these rumours. However, it’s doubtful that Arsene Wenger would even want a new striker just a few months after signing Alexandre Lacazette.
