The Karim Benzema saga is rumbling steadily on, with the latest news suggesting a deal is close. Twitter journalist and Guardian, Four Four Two, and Gazzetta dello Sport writer Emanuele Giulianelli claims our £48m move for the Frenchman hinges on Real Madrid making a replacement signing, so we may have to wait to see him in an Arsenal shirt.
£48mln ok for Real Madrid. They want to sign a new striker before announcing Benzema to Arsenal. #afc

Our hunt for a striker is well documented, with Benzema joining a long list of names including Robert Lewandowski, Edinson Cavani, and Gonzalo Higuain (via Sky Sports).
We have been most strongly linked with Real Madrid’s 27-year-old frontman though, with Benzema also seemingly the first choice for Arsenal fans around the globe.
The move is apparently dependent on Los Blancos signing a replacement however, with Benzema their only real option up front at the moment. They have been linked with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero (via the Metro) and Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus (via the Express) most recently, both moves which seem fairly improbable.
You would expect Dortmund to be far more likely to sell, as Manchester City really have no reason to offload their star striker, but the lure of the Santiago Bernabeu may be too much for any player.

It makes little difference to us who Madrid sign or where they sign him from, we just need them to bring someone in to facilitate Benzema’s Emirates switch.

Hopefully a deal is concluded sooner rather than later, and we don’t have to wait until deadline day to get our business done.
