Every time there is a transfer window, there are always calls by fans to Wenger to buy players that even don’t make sense. So far, Arsenal have managed to stay top of the league during the top half of the season. They didn’t scrape their way to the top. They deserve to be there. Even the most vocal critic will admit as much.Arsene Wenger has done it with the players at his disposal and with others coming back from injury, you wonder who is going to make the first team. Let me give you a practical example. Our midfielders include Carzola, Rosicky, Ozil, Wilshere, Ramsey, Podolski, Arteta, Flamini, Gnabry, and now AOC. That is ten so far. Where do you put all these players including those who are meant to make the bench?
We have forwards in Oliver Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner, while Sanogo is coming back from injury next week. Podolski can also play in this position. Giroud has done superb for us this season and while I will admit Bendtner’s not everyone’s cup of tea, he has done the job when called upon and has rediscovered his confidence while at it. Sanogo is a diamond in the rough and given a chance I believe will shine bright. Then we have Theo Walcott who will come from injury next season. I definitely believe we have enough players to cover for his absence. That makes it four forwards when he comes back..
Now let us look at the bright young prospects. There is a young Gideon Zelalem and Thomas Eisfeld waiting in the wings. I will concentrate on these two extremely gifted players. In one or two year’s time, they will be ready to make the step up to the first team. With more players blocking their move to the first team, it will be inevitable that they move.
So let us analyze the players that have been mentioned for a transfer to our team. Alvaro Morata. This is a player I am sure only a handful of fans have even seen play if any. That is because he cannot even get into Real Madrid’s first team. We have no idea about his attributes. Just those that have been mentioned by the Spanish press and Real Madrid to make sure the player’s price can go up. He might be slower than Giroud and have lousy movement for all we know but heck, he is a new player so let’s buy him.
Then we have Vucinic. I watched him during his time at Roma and I was not impressed at all. When he went to Juventus, I asked my colleague who is a big Juve supporter what he thought of Vucinic. The answer? He is an extremely frustrating player to watch. First he is more of a second striker than out and out (do we need that?), he is a very lazy player who never tracks back (key word is never), can be very creative but you only see that creativity like one in every five games and is selfish.
So to Julian Draxler! The attacking midfielder who is supposed to be converted to a striker. We already have enough attacking midfielders and when did Wenger say he wants to convert him to a striker? All I have heard from Wenger is Arsenal are not close to signing a player and when he was asked about Draxler, his answer was an emphatic no! I doubt whether Draxler will come to Arsenal this transfer window or the next but even if he does, it will be when Wenger is good and ready to bring him. No one saw Ozil coming to Arsenal did they?
Looking at the players mentioned I ask you, like Wenger, show me an exceptional player that will improve our team.
