Last game’s hero Santi Cazorla took some time to speak to arsenal.com following the 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday. The Spaniard was a creative force throughout the game and provided the assist for Welbeck’s goal that won us the game. He even had a couple of chances to score himself but his finishing was not up to the mark.
Speaking to the media, he highlighted the importance of the win for the team; we had gone into the game on the back of successive defeats against Swansea and United, and the players needed to make their intent clear. And they did so from early in the game, dominating easily against a defensive minded West Brom team.
Santi also praised goalscorer Welbeck and said that he enjoyed playing with the English striker:
It was an important game for us. We needed to win because we’d lost our last two games. It was important for the team’s confidence and we played very well.
It’s good when I play with Welbeck and he put in a good performance for the team. Now we need to continue to play the same.
Both Cazorla and Welbeck have enjoyed extended spells in the team this season, Welbeck due to the injury to Olivier Giroud and Cazorla due to the injury to Mesut Ozil. But these performances make a strong case for the players to be picked in the starting lineup, which means Wenger will be faced with a pleasant headache when all his players return from injury in January.
