The 25 year old has been a regular starter since his £42.5 million transfer to north London from Real Madrid back in September. The play maker has scored three goals and made five assists since arriving at Emirates Stadium.
Cazorla believes that the Germany international’s presence has been an important force in driving Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.
According to The Independent, he said:
He brings us something different, because he’s all talent, what he does is magic. It seems like he’s not there and then he changes a game with one control, one pass. It surprised us that he came to Arsenal, because you don’t expect him to leave Madrid and then choose our team. For us he’s a gift.
Despite their defeat to Manchester United in their last match, Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table and the Spanish international feels the team have matured from last season. He added:
We’ve matured. It’s nice to see yourself top, it gives you strength and confidence, but there’s a long way to go. We had to be more consistent and we are now, that is a defect that we have corrected. The team is not as ‘innocent’, we are committing fewer errors. Last year, through forgetfulness or lack of concentration, we lost games stupidly and we have learned from that.
Ozil made a blistering start to his Arsenal career but has struggled to impose himself as much in recent matches, which has led to some criticism, especially after a particularly subdued showing in the loss to Manchester United in their last Premier League fixture. However his performance against United was partially explained afterwards when it was revealed that he was suffering from the flu-like illness.
The impact of the arrival of an established star like Mesut Ozil has been significant and the confidence is certainly flowing through the Arsenal ranks and some of the credit should be given to the German international but there are other players such as Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Koscienly who have drastically stepped up their game since the beginning of the new season.
Cazorla has only recently returned from injury himself and is yet to find his best form but when he eventually does it will be mouth watering to watch the Spaniard and Ozil play together in harmony.
