First I want to point out that Jose Mourinho has become what he always accused Arsene Wenger of being…a voyeur!
Mourinho has been commenting about Wenger and Arsenal for a long time now, the latest being that the Frenchman is a lucky manager with the best job ever that basically comes with security of tenure.
On the surface, most people might agree with Mourinho and feel like Wenger is under-performing, but is this honestly the case? We all know that after the Emirates Stadium was built, finances were scarce and Wenger was not able to buy players that would let him compete with the ‘big boys’ – so to speak.
At this point, Mourinho was joining Chelsea with a famous Russian oligarch having just acquired the club and able to purchase any player in the market. During this period, how many players did Mourinho snatch from Wenger’s nose?
Wenger has worked hard to build a team from scratch. He has had to buy kids and watch them mature while others, like Robin van Persie, Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas, all abandoned him. Emmanuel Adebayor, a greedy player by all standards, also tried to hold Wenger hostage after one…above average season. Through all this, Wenger has remained loyal to the club and the project he started.

Now Mourinho has mentioned that with the players Wenger has at his disposal, Arsenal should be challenging for the title. What he neglects to say is Wenger has had to be patient with players like Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere – who are about the same age as his best player at the moment, Eden Hazard – and their impact is starting to be felt at Arsenal.
Mourinho is not a patient coach and is not willing to play by the rules and yet he claims to crave Wenger’s job because he has not been fired yet for years of stability without success. The loyalty shown by Wenger over the years is only being reciprocated by the club and Mourinho should just accept that his relationship with Chelsea is strictly business!
