Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has started with the jibes towards Arsene Wenger before the season has even begun, claiming that we’ve spent more money than him over the past few years, as reported by the Mirror.
Mourinho claimed that the public perception about Wenger and his apparent refusal to spend money has clouded people’s judgement, and he’s urged many to look at the numbers.
Chelsea finished 12 points ahead of us last season as they stormed towards the league title, and the Portuguese coach is clearly trying to apply pressure on Wenger.
Arsenal transfer rumours
“If you add up the amounts the clubs have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise,” Mourinho was quoted as saying.
“Get a calculator. That is one of the easiest things to do. It leaves no space for speculation.

“They have bought a fantastic goalkeeper and that is a position which is very important in a team. If you put [Mesut] Ozil plus [Alexis] Sanchez, plus [Calum] Chambers, plus [Mathieu] Debuchy you will maybe find a surprise.”
Over the past two years, there is no debating that we’ve seen an escalation in our financial power and Wenger has shrugged off his reputation of being prudent.
However, it would be rather foolish to disregard the multi-million pound squad Mourinho took over during his second spell, while Wenger has been rebuilding a team capable of winning the title over the past three years.
This season, Wenger clearly believes he has the squad capable of reaching the pinnacle (via the Express) and with money no longer an issue, there can be no excuses.
