Chelsea’s teenage right-back Ola Aina is on Arsenal’s radar after snubbing a new contract with the Blues, with Arsene Wenger keen to bring some backup for Hector Bellerin to the Emirates, according to the Mirror.
Aina is a highly rated prospect at Stamford Bridge, but hasn’t been getting the first team chances he wants at the club. He has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new deal with Chelsea, and could therefore be set for an exit as early as January.
Hector Bellerin is unquestionably the first choice right-back at Arsenal, with the Spaniard arguably showing that he’s one of the best full-backs in the league with his performances over the last year. His attacking contributions are absolutely phenomenal, as evidenced by the two assists he got against Sunderland in the FA Cup.
The Spaniard’s meteoric rise means Mathieu Debuchy has found first team football hard to come by, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him seek an exit. Hopefully that exit doesn’t come in January, as we’d be left pretty thin at right-back.
The Mirror’s report suggests we won’t be able to lure him away until his contract ends this summer, and as we’re pushing for the title we can’t afford to leave ourselves light in any areas.
The report goes on to reveal we’re facing serious competition from the likes of West Ham, Everton, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and Napoli. The Hammers currently have Carl Jenkinson on a season long loan, but this season he’s made far less of an impact and his future is up in the air as well.

It seems highly unlikely that Bellerin will be displaced any time soon, so we need a player who is happy playing second fiddle to the 20-year-old. Debuchy clearly isn’t that player, but would Aina or Jenkinson be content with that role?
