Arsene Wenger’s future is the big story at the moment and a close friend of the Frenchman has reportedly spoken about his potential exit. The unnamed source claims that Wenger will feel an “immense sadness” when he leaves Arsenal but that there is a new contract offer ready for the Frenchman to sign (via Sport Witness).
It’s impossible to have a discussion about Arsenal these days without it coming back to the future of Arsene Wenger. After 20 years at the club, this is perhaps the moment when his future is in the most amount of doubt.
With the Frenchman’s contract expiring at the end of the season and little indication that he will sign a new deal yet, rumours are certainly swirling. Now, a close friend of Wenger has reportedly spoken to French publication L’Equipe about the Arsenal boss’s future.
“The results are not as expected,” the unnamed source observed. “The supporters are angry but Arsene is impervious to outside pressure and has the support of the board.
“His sadness will be immense, the day he leaves Arsenal.” However, despite that. The source did seem to suggest that he will indeed sign the new deal which is still on the table.
“It is he who will decide his future,” it went on. “His contract renewal is ready. He only has to sign it. He is aware of some errors, especially in recruitment.”
A lot of Arsenal supporters will be thinking that is the understatement of the century. There have been more than a few errors from Wenger in recent weeks, let alone the last three seasons. Anonymous quotes from “close friends” should obviously be taken with more than a pinch of salt and it remains to be seen whether there is any truth in this.
