A striker is top of our priority list this summer, with Danny Welbeck’s injury meaning Olivier Giroud is currently our only option. Arsene Wenger is clearly looking to address the issue as quickly as possible, with Udinese president Franco Soldati confirming that an offer had been made for Colombian striker Duvan Zapata, as reported by the Express.

Zapata is owned by Napoli, but is currently one year into a two year loan spell with Udinese. There’s a clause in the contract that states they can recall him early though, and if they want to accept an offer from Arsenal then they have the power to do so.
Soldati insists Zapata is happy on loan at Udinese, but an offer from Arsenal may well prove too good to turn down.
“There is a clause that allows Napoli to recall him early from the two-year loan,” Soldati told Radio Kiss Kiss (via the Express).
“He is very happy in Udine, his agent said that too and I hope he can remain with our jersey.

“He also received many offers from abroad, including from Arsenal. However, first we want coach Beppe Iachini to get to know the team so they can make shared decisions.”
The 25-year-old isn’t exactly the big name signing many Arsenal fans would have hoped for, but the fact that we’ve allegedly made an offer at least shows we’re on the lookout for new blood.
His eight goals in 25 appearances is nothing to shout about at all, and if we were to sign the South American star it would be a bit of an underwhelming signing. Arsenal fans want to see a player the calibre of Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, or Luis Suarez arrive at the Emirates – obviously a tall order – and Zapata is nowhere near that standard.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully Wenger has other targets lined up, and Zapata isn’t the only striker linked with an Arsenal switch this summer.
