The rumour of Mohamed Elneny’s move to Arsenal just keeps on building up speed, and it’s now being reported that the 23-year-old is undergoing a medical. The confirmation comes from former assistant coach of Egpyt Dia El Sayed, who claimed on Twitter and then told Goal that Elneny was on the verge of joining Arsenal.
The report suggests a £5m fee has been agreed and that the FC Basel player has been granted a work permit to play in England. A four and a half year contract is apparently on the table, with the deal set to be completed early in January.
El Sayed obviously knows Elneny well from his time with the Egyptian national team, and Goal claim they have verified the comments made. This deal is getting a huge amount of coverage from a number of seemingly reliable sources, so despite the fickle nature of the transfer market, this deal really does seem close.
As we’ve said previously on All Arsenal when analysing Elneny’s suitability for the role he’ll be brought in to do, he’s not exactly a dedicated defensive midfielder but he’s more than capable of doing the job. He’s got an excellent passing range and endless energy, and will hopefully be an excellent deputy for Francis Coquelin.
Arsenal transfer news
At this point it would be more of a shock if this deal didn’t go through, as with just a couple of days to go before the window opens, there are non-stop rumours about Elneny making the switch to North London.
