Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has come to the defence of his teammates, and Olivier Giroud in particular, following criticism from our record goalscorer Thierry Henry, The Evening Standard reports.
After our credible goalless draw against Chelsea where we remained competitive whilst dominating the game, Henry chose to rather focus on the fact that we’ve yet again fallen short in terms of the league title race.
During what could be described as a ‘rant’, Henry directed his frustrations towards Giroud, stating that we could never win the league with him as our spearhead (via the Mirror).
Arsenal transfer rumours
Coquelin forcefully disagreed and, rather bluntly, pointed out why the iconic forward was ‘wrong’.
“Thierry Henry is wrong,” he was quoted as saying in the publication.

“Giroud shows his potential every week.
“He showed that he has the level to be the Arsenal striker, and we can win titles with him.”
The timing of Henry’s comments has baffled many with Giroud scoring 14 league goals in 22 appearances this season and the team on course to finish second.
Chelsea have shown that winning the league is possible without a 30-goal-a-season striker, and the difference between us and them is not huge.
We missed the first part of the season, whilst the league leaders remained unbeaten until December, effectively killing off our title chances – but ability wise – we’re comparable.
Giroud may not be as prolific as Henry was, but then again, what striker in the league is? Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero currently top the goalscoring charts, yet we’re likely to finish above Man City and Spurs comfortably.
It’s not all about lethal strikers.
