Remember Yaya Sanogo? That rubbish French bloke we signed on a free in 2013? Well after failing miserably while on loan at Ajax, he’s on his way back to England to try his hand in the Championship with Charlton Athletic (via Arsenal.com).
The 23-year-old was totally uninspiring when he first signed for Arsenal, and struggled badly in the English top flight. He also suffered badly with injuries, and it never really looked like he was going to make it at Arsenal. He has the right physical attributes to succeed, but his Bambi legged, baby Giraffe act makes Danny Welbeck look as surefooted as a mountain goat.
Sanogo had impressed at youth level prior to his north London switch, and Arsene Wenger understandably thought he saw promise in the youngster. He looks far from realise that potential though, and he needs a successful loan spell to get his career back on track.
He’s spent time at Crystal Palace and Ajax, both of which ended in failure. The Dutch side’s youth coach Ronald de Boer went as far as to say the Frenchman has “no qualities” whatsoever (via the Daily Star), which is a damning assessment indeed.
Arsenal transfer news
He’s still young of course, so it’s possible he could drastically improve and make it at the top level. He’s nowhere near good enough to be playing for Arsenal right now though, and unless he shows signs of improvement at Charlton, it’s hard to see him ever reaching the required level.
