Decent lineup named today for the clash against the Black Cats, this is a must win game for Arsenal and hopefully these players will be able to do it.
The defence consists of Chambers, Monreal, Mertesacker and Gibbs. Considering the injury status of the squad, this is a rather strong back four. Chambers and Gibbs have been in good form lately and Monreal has done well considering that he is being played out of position. Mertesacker has been a bit weak though but hopefully he will recover today. Szczesny also returns to the team after sitting out the game against Anderlecht thanks to a suspension.
In midfield, we will see Arteta, Flamini, Ox, Sanchez and Cazorla. Wenger is evidently planning to play the 4-2-3-1 with both Arteta and Flamini as holding players. Our defence has been very porous this season and this is probably a method to try to add more stability to the side. Cazorla will start in the No. 10 role, with the Ox and Sanchez out wide. The decision to exclude Ramsey is interesting, hopefully it doesn’t backfire on us.
Welbeck will start up front, the Englishman is the obvious choice.
On the bench we have Ramsey, Rosicky, Walcott and Podolski. This is a quality bench, and Wenger will have quite a few options for a late attacking flurry. It is good to see Walcott in the first team, but he might not play. Podolski and Ramsey will surely feature in the second half.
