Robbie Savage is not exactly the most well respected pundit, but even he gets it right occasionally. The BBC pundit spoke after our 2-2 draw with Manchester City, heaping praise on Olivier Giroud for his goal and assist against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, as reported by the BBC.
“Giroud has been excellent today,” Savage said.
“He has his critics but he’s had defenders all over him this afternoon and has linked up the play well. He’s been very, very good this afternoon.”
While it wasn’t necessarily our best performance, we were more than deserving of the draw. Giroud put in a fantastic shift, and his goal came at a fantastic time. We really needed to hit straight back against City after Sergio Aguero’s early goal – which we never really should have conceded – and Giroud’s powerful header did just that.
The French forward has been disappointing recently, experiencing his longest goal drought in an Arsenal shirt – going 15 games without finding the back of the net. Fans have been getting tired of his streaky and inconsistent performances, with this latest drought only seeing the calls for his head intensify.

Arsene Wenger will no doubt be in the market for a new striker this summer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the end for Olivier Giroud. He could still be an excellent squad option or back-up to a world class striker, and with Danny Welbeck suffering an injury against City, the need for depth has once again been highlighted.
